 A few snores came from a tabby she-cat, the sounds wavering out to the now-waking world. Dawn approached, and, unknown to the she-cat, weak leaf-bare sun shone on her tabby pelt. Dust floated in the air, caught by the sunlight glaring off  snow and melting ice. A speck of dust landed on the apprentice's nose, making her hop up, snapping her amber eyes open as she screeched.

Florapaw's wary eyes darted side to side, and she scrambled back to the wall of the medicine den. "Eek! S-Something was..." Her large amber eyes caught the suspicious specks of dust, now floating back as the world got used to the new found sunlight. "...Hit...Me..." The light brown tabby shook her head with a disappointed sigh, the negative feelings in the single breath mainly directed to herself. I'm so stupid!

Suddenly, her own fearful encounter was not of her top concerns. Oh foxdung! I must've woken up Etherealwish! Florapaw felt herself wanting to cry or let out a few weak mewls. Gee, I can't do anything right...!  The upset she-cat's shakey gaze reached her mentor... Who was luckily still asleep. [ powerplay....? ] "Oh th-thank Starclan..." Florapaw murmured, getting up onto her white splashed paws. The sleek cat walked over to the bigger one - her mentor, her aunt. It would be rude to wake a cat, especially a cat higher ranked and older than herself, but...

"E-Etherealwish?" Florapaw squeaked as she prodded the sleeping cat with her small paws. "I...I was wondering if we could, ah, t-train?" she asked, her amber eyes sparkling with eagerness. Florapaw might've been a shy cat, but that definitely didn't get in the way of her natural curiosity.

Dreams seemed the only time when she ever had peace or tranquility, all to herself. This time it was different, and instead of it being peaceful it was the exact opposite. A nightmare about her mother, Dappledrose. Her mother had died a while ago, and even though Dappledrose possibly resided in StarClan, Etherealwish still found herself unable to forget it. No matter what she did, it seemed nothing could take it away from her. This one was of her mother dying right infront of her, being killed by a roaring monster, and having to stand there, unable to help as her mother was crushed into flatness. It all seemed so real, her dreams. The dread of watching her mother die made her feel like she was immobile; paralyzed, hardly able to catch her breath as she caught sight of her mom's chest stop rising. She was frozen. The she-cat could hear her name being called into the distance, but it seemed so far away, from wherever only StarClan could tell. Certainly far from here, Etherealwish thought, shaking her head at the nightmare she had and she awoke to the bright light of the sun's pretty golden beams of it rising.

Shaking her cranium tiredly, she found her ice-blue gaze meeting a familiar amber one. Dappledrose? was her immediate thought, but she found herself pushing it away. Mouse-brain! Your mother is never coming back! Ever! It's just Florapaw. Stop trying to get your hopes up. She nervously cast her oculars a tad away from Florapaw and murmured quietly, "Y-Yeah?" the words came out as a cold whisper, their usual sound as if they had been ripped from all emotion, even though the softness of her tone she'd been taught to use still lay deep within it. "I...I was wondering if we could, ah, t-train?" she heard her apprentice ask. "Uh.. I-I guess. I-I'm sorry... I'm just really tired today," the medicine cat whispered, not really wanting to look into her apprentice's eyes.

Even before Etherealwish spoke in full sentences, Florapaw sensed something was... off. The she-cat had come so far - mere weeks ago, she would dismiss this sense of tension as nothing important and nothing concerning her. For a moment, the sleek tabby blinked and looked away, trying to forget. Was it bad she didn't want to grow up?

Florapaw was quiet for a few moments, although words rumbled in her throat. I knew I shouldn't have woken her up... she thought, disappointed in herself. I should be punished...! the came to her as she looked down at her splashed paws. "S-Sorry...! W-We don't h-have to, but it'd be nice, I'm s-sorry," she murmured, her voice shaking. "Sorry for waking y-you, too...!" the smaller cat squeaked, finally turning back to her mentor, her face scrunched up - a bit like when a human looked like it was going to cry.

The apology she spoke wasn't just for waking her, it was for everything she felt she did wrong. Florapaw was convinced she failed Etherealwish one way or another - she could just see it in the way she would speak or walk. What did I do? I hope I can fix it... Her gaze was focused on her edgy mentor, quietly waiting for a reply.

 "S-Sorry...! W-We don't h-have to, but it'd be nice, I'm s-sorry," she heard Florapaw squeak, "Sorry for waking y-you, too...!" and she forced herself to look into her apprentice's amber eyes, finding them filled with sorrow. "I-It's fine. I'm not mad about you waking me up. There's nothing wrong. I'm perfectly happy you woke me up, Florapaw." she mewed quietly, glancing away from the brown tabby apprentice after she finished her sentence. Etherealwish nudged Florapaw with a paw. "Calm down; don't be so upset." she smiled weakly, beginning to get up to her snow-hued feet with a drowsy yawn. "We can train right now if you'd like," she hesitated to add, silently praying that the timid feline wouldn't get excited over it, though she highly doubted it would happen. The poor she-cat was so shy it seemed like even a falling leaf could scare her.

Poor Florapaw, Etherealwish thought, her ears flattening. She worries so much, and it's all over nothing. Letting out another yawn, she gently rested her tail on her clan-mate's shoulders. "I didn't mean to sound so harsh. I shouldn't talk to you like that, Florapaw. You deserve to be treated better." the temptress murmured quietly under her breath, although it was loud enough for the smaller cat to hear. The medicine cat began to make her way to the entrance of the den, not saying anything anymore.

Florapaw got up, her tail wavering into a crooked formation - a bit like an afraid canine's, but her movements showed the sleek feline was quite anxious, despite her mentor's reassuring words. Is there something more I can say? she wondered, subconsciously tilting her head to the side. She gave a small smile as the other cat meowed, "We can train right now if you'd like."

At this, Florapaw forced herself not to give a little hop. She was usually quite eager to learn, even if the tension of her and Etherealwish's exchanges dampened the mood. The apprentice made her way towards the herb supplies, just to check in. "I'll see what we've got... S-So you d-don't have to w-work yourself... Y-You know, when y-you're tired," Florapaw explained, her nostrils flaring as she picked up the scent of stale herbs and the essence of the fresh ones. The she-cat frowned as she saw that there wasn't much... "This leafbare's g-going to be t-tough..." she said under her breath, nosing her way around the herbs, careful not to touch any - just incase. "Nothing seems to be missing or gone that bad!" Florapaw reported, a sense of pride in her voice.

"I didn't mean to sound so harsh. I shouldn't talk to you like that, Florapaw. You deserve to be treated better."
Florapaw looked back at the other she-cat and quickly shook her brown head. "Nonono! That's okay! T-Treat me h-however you want! I-It's fine!" she meowed quickly.

Etherealwish nodded. "You don't have to, Florapaw, but thanks anyway.." she sighed, glancing quietly at her paws as she tried to listen intently on what Florapaw was saying to her. "Nothing seems to be missing or gone that bad!" she heard her apprentice mew, and she couldn't help but smile. "Good job, Florapaw," the brown ticked tabby mewed, lifting her oculars slightly so she could watch the young she-cat. "Nonono! That's okay! T-Treat me h-however you want! I-It's fine!" The ticked tabby flicked an ear at her quickly spoken words. "Florapaw, calm down. You're my apprentice. You shouldn't be treated like a kit. You should be treated like a Warrior." the she-cat mewed, quietly flicking her tail in order to beckon her apprentice towards her. "Come on, we should go get more herbs or see if the frost has taken them all, at least." The medicine cat murmured quietly, beginning to make her way out of the den, but walking slowly so her apprentice could catch up with her and so she could keep a lookout in case there was anything suspicious out in the forest.

Etherealwish sighed. The wind was buffeting at her matted fur and she tried to suppress a shudder from its chill. The she-cat looked back at Florapaw and asked, "Are you okay? It's really cold out here." she mewed, hoping Florapaw wouldn't insist that the weather was fine. With this weather, if we stayed out here long enough, one of us could get sick! she thought worriedly.

Florapaw smiled, trying not to show how much she appreciated her mentor's praise, although her beaming face betrayed her attempt at being modest about Etherealwish's words. Florapaw quickly shook her head, and gave a sigh. "It's alright, r-really. I'm a l-lower rank than y-you, it should make s-sense," she stuttered, looking down at her paws for a moment, a shame shadowing her face. I shouldn't tell her what to do...!  The molly had an expression of confusion and a small hint of unhappiness, as she was distracted by her conflicting thoughts. She was soon brought back to reality as Etherealwish suggested hunting for herbs. Florapaw perked up a bit, her round amber eyes alit with the pleasure of having something important to do with herself. Florapaw quite liked being used and worked, and she sure showed it, although she tried not to reveal her eagerness to learn and improve. It didn't seem like a good quality to her. The she-cat hopped out of the den, immediately feeling the chill in the not-so-light breeze. Her sleek fur and delicate frame didn't really help her out, and it was almost all Florapaw could do to keep from shivering. "Oh, no, I'm a-alright! J-Just swell!" she said with a small smile, this time her stuttered words influenced by the chattering of her own teeth. }} ooc....♥ Word count: 238. Character count: 1296. Tags: Nako [Eth] Notes:

"It's alright, r-really. I'm a l-lower rank than y-you, it should make s-sense," Etherealwish flicked her ear, stifling a sigh. "It might make sense to you, but it doesn't make much to me," she murmured, flicking her tail. She began to pad towards the camp entrance and she was almost out of it when she heard Florapaw stutter her way again. "Oh, no, I'm a-alright! J-Just swell!" she tried to force a hiss not to come out of her throat. "Um.... A-Are you sure?" she whispered cautiously. It's too cold out here for her! If she gets sick, then what will I do?! she wanted to scream. She's so stubborn, but I can't really complain.. she sighed.

She continued lying her ice-blue gaze on Florapaw. "A-anyways.. we're going to need to get some cat-mint and tansy.. Hopefully there will be some left.. In case green-cough comes in." she mewed as she started to walk out of the camp's entrance, her ears pricking upwards to try and make sure Florapaw was still following and also keep track if anything was around. The cold wind blew against her fur and she tried her hardest to suppress a shudder at the chill she received. New-leaf will come soon, she reminded herself, trying to keep herself a bit optimistic despite the weather they'd been having recently.

Florapaw began to feel hot under her fur. "Oh, oops, sorry.... U-Uh, I-I think y-your opinion m-matters most, so...I-I guess that's okay!" she said with her brightest of smiles and a nod of her tabby patterned head. She couldn't shake the feeling that she was upsetting Etherealwish, though, and it made Florapaw that much more nervous. Silently, she cursed herself, Etherealwish is my mentor and my aunt. I should be able to talk to her!  Florapaw nodded again, biting her lip as she looked down, feeling she had failed to fight off the biting cold. "Yup, s-sure as can be." Despite her words, Florapaw felt as if she were frozen, and the shaking of her tiny body wasn't helping her case. "I can make it," she meowed quietly, mainly to reassure herself. "Catmint and tansy!" the she-cat said loudly, to stick the words in her mind. "G-Greencough... O-Oh... It's already t-time for that...that h-horrid illness?" she squeaked, amber eyes wide. Florapaw barely remembered stories of the sickness, but the worst parts still stuck in her mind. During her fifth moon, she experienced her first leafbare, and she could remember the queens and her own mother warning her to stay inside the nursery for a bit because of the threatening cold. Although she never experienced the sickness herself, Florapaw wondered if she could bare to watch a cat slowly die away without the aid of the right herbs.  Florapaw hopped right behind Etherealwish, although the molly's bounce was only partially caused by joy. Her thing coat didn't really help her protect against the cold, her guard hairs going flat against her back. She paused to sniff every so often, just in case she could catch the whiff of one of their targets -- the herbs her clan needed. }} ooc....♥ Word count: 315. Character count: 1736.
